MacBook Pro on its way!

On April 22, 2008, in Mac, by Anuj Gakhar

I cant wait to get my macbook pro. Apparently, it has been shipped and should be with me before the weekend. This will be my first ever non-windows expereince and I am getting ready for the adventure. I realize the migration from Windows to Mac is not an easy one and there will be some (may be lots ;)) hurdles along the way but I think nothing really major.

Any tips for regular Mac users on what / what not to do, would be really handy.

  1. Reading up on Ray’s blog about his Mac-switch gotchas would probably be wise. Sean Corfield also has a ton of information as well.

  2. No worry, you can always switch to Vista thing on it when you run into trouble with Leopard 🙂

hehe, I havent even used Vista for a day yet, never had the desire to do so. But yeah, might have to use Windows for a couple more months until I am used to Leopard….

My first attempt would be to get the dev enironment working..Eclipse, CF, Apache, SVN etc…lets see how it goes..

Yeah I just got a MacBook about 2 months ago and the best thing was the CF 8.0.1 Updater since it now has true leopard 64 bit support. Everything else should be pretty easy especially since you use eclipse.

The hardest part has been giving up TortoiseSVN…

  5. Anuj Gakhar says:

I use the Eclipse SVN plugin more so giving up TortoiseSVN might not be a big issue for me. Have you found an alternative yet though ?

  6. J.J. Merrick says:

No I haven’t. There is one called SCPlugin or something like that but it just isn’t the same. Subclipse has helped though.

  7. Try SmartSVN on the Mac instead of TortoiseSVN. It seems to be a full featured SVN that is working well for me. Also, you’ll need to memorize the command link to launch CF:

    /Applications/JRun4/bin/jrun start cfusion

Thanks for the tip, David. Can I not set it to start automatically like windows services?

  9. J.J. Merrick says:

Yeah with the CF8.0.1 updater you can use the ColdFusion Launcher.

so the command is Command + Spacebar “ColdF” then enter 🙂

    ahhhh spotlight!

after some delays, i have finally received my macbook, i am liking it a lot, so far so good!

  11. I just purchased a macbook and i’m loving it. It is a refurb with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz processor with 1 gb of ram. I heard there are a lot of problems from the MacBook, like heating issues and automatically shut down. But I think it is the way you handle the laptop… just don’t slam it. Because somepeople don’t notice they slam it too hard, just don’t get to comfortable with it because it is very breakable, my dad had the old one, it broke, but it never had that crack, because he handled it gently.

    Hi there,

You have ordered a nice thing for sure. It won’t only make you off from the common windows experience but will bring a lot of new things at your door. Also it has got new features to discover and a lot of knowledge to grab!

I’m dying to know how you liked the purchase. I still use a PC for my internet marketing consulting work but we recently got a mac for my family computer. It’s amazing. I love it.
