Book Giveaway : jQuery 1.3 with PHP

On December 15, 2010, in Javascript, Books, by Anuj Gakhar

Giveaway:-

I’ve got 2 hard copies of this book with me. jQuery 1.3 with PHP . I am planning to give away these books to the 2 best comments on this post. The comments should be on why/how you would use jQuery in your next web project. jQuery is my favorite Javascript library and I’d love to read the comments on this.  However, the 2 best comments would be decided by myself and will not be questionable 🙂 I will make this decision on the 25th of December 2010. So you’ve 10 days to post your comments. Also, I will only be able to ship them within the UK only. Sorry, can not do international.

About the book :-

This book will show you how to use jQuery to enhance your PHP applications, with many examples using jQuery’s user interface library jQuery UI, and other examples using popular jQuery plugins. It will help you to add exciting user interface features to liven up your PHP applications without having to become a master of client-side JavaScript.

This book will teach you how to use jQuery to create some really stunning effects, but without you needing to have in-depth knowledge of how jQuery works. It provides you with everything you need to build practical user interfaces for everything from graphics manipulation to drag-and-drop to data searching, and much more. The book also provides practical demonstrations of PHP and jQuery and explains those examples, rather than starting from how JavaScript works and how it is different from PHP.

By the end of this book, you should be able to take any PHP application you have written, and transform it into a responsive, user-friendly interface, with capabilities you would not have dreamed of being able to achieve, all in just a few lines of JavaScript.

A practical guide for building responsive user interfaces for your web site’s PHP applications, using jQuery, jQuery UI, and jQuery plugins.

Approach

This book takes a practical approach to integrating PHP and jQuery, showing examples of every point discussed. All examples are written such that you should be able to copy out the code into your own projects and see immediate results, no matter what your experience with JavaScript. You will find projects developed within a chapter, building them up step-by-step, describing the process and thought that goes into it. Minimal requirements are needed on the server-side, so the examples should work with any setup.
Who this book is written for

This book is for PHP application developers who want to improve their user interfaces through jQuery’s capabilities and responsiveness. Whether you are familiar with jQuery or have only dabbled a little with JavaScript, this book will provide you with numerous practical examples of how to improve your application.

I would use jQuery in my next project to allow myself to add functionality much faster while writing much less code (and, it helps to make my app look much cooler too, being that I am not a graphic designer by any means. Thanks JQueryUI!). In doing so, it allows more much needed time at home with my family 🙂

  2. Arun says:

Planning to use it to create an app with PHPv5.x (cannot reveal the name yet, app can be used for day-to-day basic needs). Targetting multi screen, synch up with central server. Its going to be free/open for everyone.

I do know PHP & I want to learn jQuery so this book would be my perfect companion when programming some wonder applications during the long winter nights. I can hear ‘Ho ho ho’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ background music already 🙂

I am flash developer, but some tasks can be done just better in HTML/Javascript. I find jQuery an extremely powerfull and efficient library which allows me to complete projects faster and better than when using other techniques.
Oh, and combining jQuery, server side and Flash together gives me real power 🙂
However I am just beginner in jQuery…

  5. Martyn says:

Jquery has had an incredible impact on the web development community and the web as a whole, as this post mentions it is very powerful for creating effects but most importantly enhancing the user experience. Understanding how php and jquery can play together has become an essential skill.

Like many developers I have scratched the surface due to the availability of web tutorials however on my next php project I plan to take development to the next level, this book sound ideal to aid this.

I am creating a completely free ‘toolkit style’ application (php) for fellow developers to share their most loved applications and resources. Where I hope to make use of jquery is in the real time scripting for draggable content and interative elements but mostly to enhance and support the simplistic design and functions.

    All the best….

OK guys – as I said I will be deciding the best comments here on the 25th. I know it’s the 27th today and I apologize for that.

The winners of the book giveaway are @Martyn @ @KyleDodge. Guys, please email me your UK postal address so I can post the books to you. My email can be found at the ‘Contact Me’ Page.

And finally, thanks a lot to all for posting comments here.

jQuery is one of at least a dozen JavaScript frameworks that have exploded onto the scene during the last few years, and for good reason. The Web 2.0 era has called upon JavaScript in a big way, turning to it as the driving force behind all the gliz and glamour that defines any Web 2.0 site. This huge increase in workload for JavaScript has called out for JavaScript frameworks that do the heavy lifting of common Web 2.0 tasks for us, from common visual effects such as fading, DOM traversal/ manipulation, to of course, Ajax interaction.
