Ohloh, a company that ranks the nation’s top open source coders, is opening its service to let other developers to track and rank their own teams. What they do is assign something calle KudoRank to each coder based on the activity done by that coder. Because these are all open source projects, the number of lines of code by each developer can be counted and thats how the KudoRank comes up (its a number between 1 and 10).
I just read about this and I find it quite an interesting thing to do. More info here .
Its interesting how they count the number of lines of code.
I just read about this big news.

My wife asked me an hour ago how to convert PDF file to Word. She had this huge 40 page PDF file that she wanted to convert. I told her a few links from Google and after trying about 6 of them, all she found out was that they only do about the first 3 or 5 pages unless you pay for the software. That got me leaving my stuff I was doing and searching for a software that would do the job.
And finally, my wife found one software (and I couldnt!) http://www.download3000.com/download_48391.html
This free software did the trick for her but I was wondering are there really no tools around for this in an easy way ?
Probably another little CF project to take up for myself!
A very happy new year to everyone who bothers to read my blog and to those who dont read it as well.
I hope 2008 is a better year for all of us.
Cheers.
I have just been reviewed on one of the recently launched online magazines. Just thought I should blog about it. Here is the link if someone really wants to read it.
. The magazine is owned by Channel Jay Digital, a leading London based web design/development company with a vast portfolio.
I was stumbling around this morning and came across this website www.zoho.com . I had never heard about it before and it got me very curious as to what was inside, from the looks of it (as it looked very similar to Google). So I went ahead and created myself a free account. Well, I must say, I was very very impressed by what I saw. These online web2.0 applications they have, I was literally amazed. The whole suite of applications is like one better than the other. I was thinking why on this earth did I not see this before. Great stuff! They just got another regular and extensive user today !
A colleague just told me about the recently released Google Gears API. It enables offline development of web applications as it has got a inbuilt Localserver and an inbuilt SQLlite database. You can also write some code to synchronize your applications to work both offline and online. It is basically a browser extension and needs to be installed just once (I just installed). Its currently in beta state (developer only release) and is open source as well. I think this is something really cool. I am going to try it some over the next few days and try to implement it where possible in my current projects. More details here.
I’ve been using this little utility designed to help you forget about your start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even your file manager. Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!
Worth trying out for sure (Windows users). www.launchy.net
Adobe Developer Connection (ADC): It’s a new name and it signifies the next generation of what you’ve known as the Developer Center. With a new look and new ways to find information – you must check out the new ADC: http://developer.adobe.com
Verifying an email address and not just the format of the email address is something thats not very common still.
