One of my mates just sent this through to me, so I thought this is definitely worth a post :-
The FLVPlayer is a non-commercial, conceptual AIR application, intended to simplify the video transfers from YouTube to computers and mobile devices like IPhone, IPod, smartphones.
It provides the functionality to download videos onto PC, MAC or Linux and transfer them to the device later on, so the device’s bandwidth is not used later to stream videos. Other useful functionality, is a video playback. It has been built with Adobe AIR and Papervision3D. The application can be installed on PC/MAC/Linux machines, by using the image link below:

Hi Dynamic on 3, The big difference is, you have got FLVPlayer AIR absolutely free, and so will be the web components as well. Best regards, Robert
Hi Robert, Nice job!
Did you use the youtube api to display yt video in your AIR app?
Nice, that you managed to do that, I have faced some problem with security sandboxes when tried to do that. If you think you can tell me where should I start, please throw me a mail at

or just leave a comment here.

Thanks Balazs,
YT does not provide an api for video playback, and this is where fun begins. The way to go is the reverse-engineering of the official player 🙂
Best Regards,
Robert
Robert, it is actually veru nice. Are you planning on introducing a new feature where you can expand the size of the video to something bigger ?
Yes, this is going to be a part of first production release, when the AIR version will have the Full-Screen playback mode. The embeddable web widgets, will have only a preview video of current size. Another feature of the AIR version will be direct video upload to YT service.
Hi Robert,
In this video a “yt engineer” explains how to control video playback from js or flash api.

Btw it did not work for me in AIR for security reasons :S
I did not event try loading chromeless player into my AIR app, as I knew it is going to cause me problems when it comes to integrating it with Papervision engine. Besides this, I believe it is more a tool than API, and has some limitations, like watermarks etc 🙁 So I cannot tell you what exactly caused sandbox violation, as I chose completely different way to build this application.
@Robert, thats great. any ideas when the production release will be?
1-2 months time from now on.
FYI: the first comment “Dynamic on 3 Apr 2008 at 11:40 pm” has got a link to a trojan. I’ve just click it by accident. Maybe, you want to remove it…
@Marc, thanks. Removed!
